Palazzo Reale
Palazzo Reale is situated in the center of Milan and during the
11th Century was the seat of the commune authority. The Palazzo
Reale was rebuilt from scratch during the 1330s and subsequently
was home to the Lords of Milan. The first enduring theatre in Milan
was situated in the Palazzo Reale in 1598. Among the many musical
genesis to play in this theatre was Mozart when he was only a boy.
In 1965 the city of Milan bought this building in order to protect
it and preserve it and today it houses the museum of contemporary
art (Museu d'Arte Contemporanea).
Palazzo della Ragione - Piazza Mercanti, Milan, Italy
Constructed in 1233 by Oldrado da Tresseno who was the chief judge
at the time, this municipal building is often called the "Broletto
Nuovo" by locals of Milan. Courts were run in the first floor
while below on the ground floor markets were run. Today this building
has a second storey which was added in 1773 for storage.
Cimitero Monumentale
The Cimitero Monumentale encompasses tombs and shrines, many of
which were produced by celebrated sculptors of the time. Built in
1866 the Cimitero Monumentale is massive with a quarter of a million
square meters. Among the many features is the House of Fame ("Famedio")
which is building built in the architectural style of the Pantheon.
The "Famedio" is where most of the more celebrated inhabitants
of Milan are buried. The e tombs are ingenuity in their own right
with impressive artistic flair.
Palazzo Cusani
The Palazzo Cusani is situated in the North East of Milan. Initially
constructed during the 16th century and reconstructed completely
during 1797 by the architect Giovanni Ruggeri. Among the most impressive
architectural features are the facade in the style of Brocade, the
windows and balconies and the general impression the building gives.
