Milan it is often said is the real capital of Italy. It is Italy's
second largest city after Rome with a population of 1.4 million
inhabitants making it the tenth largest city in Western Europe.
The city lies to the North of Italy and spans over 182 KM sq. The
city has an atmosphere, which is more akin to a northern European
city and though not as renowned as Rome for its· architecture
and history is a must on any tourist itinerary. Milan is famous
the world over for its cosmopolitan nature, fashion houses and industry.
It is also home to two of the world's most famous football teams
Inter and AC Milan.
The city has three universities and over 50 cinemas. Milan is very
child friendly and restaurants welcome families and have a special
affinity with children as is common throughout Italy. It provides
an ideal location in which to explore Italy's longest river the
River Po, or some of the magical Italian Lakes including Lake Garda.
The Alp mountain range is also nearby.
The local people in Milan love to relax after work in the cities
many cafes and restaurants to chat and discuss many things especially
football. The city got it's name from either Celtic or Roman for
midland due to its location at the center of the Plain of Lombardy,
between the Alps and Apennines.
